Skiing with 40 HP motor
IT'S ALL RELATIVE .... A 40 HP on a 13' boston whaler would do it, but a 40 HP on a 25' sea ray would not.

The problem is the fuel in the engine more than the fuel in the tank. It can turn to varnish over time. Can you shutoff a valve between the tank and the engine? If so, try to run the engine dry of fuel so the carburetor is empty.
