Boating in Central Florida | Boat Space Coast | Brevard County & more

Hello everyone, my name is Mike and i am new to this web site. My question is I live in Merritt Island and mostly boat the Indian and Bananna Rivers. But are there any large lakes nearby to drop a boat in? If so where are they?

Thanks, Mike

welcome to the site, well as for the merritt island and fresh water lakes i'm not sure but here in melbourne you can go to lake washington and ride all around, even go south in the canal and go under 192 bridge and the is a little bar there where you can stop in and eat drink and be happy.i take my 19 1/2' boat out there and ski and tube all the time.after a day in the river i like to run the fresh water to wash the boat out and motor...

So it is good and deep all over the lake? 4 foot or better?

Lake Washington - Melbourne
Lake Poinsett - Cocoa
Lake Harney Off of 46 west of Mims.

All these lakes are connected via the St. Johns River. with smaller lakes in between. Water levels are high this spring. Normally levels are low this time of year, but we had a wet winter. Summers are normally high water levels.
The St. Johns river in Brevard is a fun place to boat, you can see a lot of wildlife. You will need to learn the river just go slow until you get the idea where you are going. When water levels are high, water is everywhere easy to make a wrong turn. When the water level is low, it is easier to follow the main river. That's why you will see a lot of air boats on the St. Johns in Brevard. I take my 20 ft pontoon all over the St Johns river and the lakes.

sounds like a fun place to boat. my main concern is getting lost. i dont have gps on my boat so is there any channel markers or anything like that out there, or should i just use common sence and not wonder to far from the boat ramp.

No Channel markers or anything. Common sence deep water is in the inside bends of the river. north or south hard to get lost. River flows north.

I have some fresh water boating friends in Orlando.I will pass your original post to them. In case they left the local area. Which is probably the case. Others should do the same, maybe we can cover the state at least. good luck, Rob

We haven't heard anything. Please keep an eye out, but the chances of getting the boat back don't look good. I hear that there have been a lot of problems at Lee Wenner with theft, so everyone be careful if you put in or dock there.

Plastic tank. Fiberglass would deteriorate and I believe that aluminum oxidizes. Not iron oxide rust but oxidation nonetheless. Boats made after 1994 are supposed to have ethanol compatible gas tanks. Do you agree? Do you replace the water separatio…

Henry, Saw your boat heading in at the port Wednesday. We had been out to 8A and points north of there, not a lot of luck, Cuda and sharks. Was looking to see how you did Wednesday for comparison, I hope your report doesnt depress me too much. Tim
